LOGGING IN YOUR
750 COACHING HOURS

MACC is your best platform to
gain your coaching hours.
Whether it is 750 hours as required by ICF or 7500 hours required by any "out of space" coaching body, you can earn this fairly quickly as MACC members.
Here are some tips:

a) Contact any of the Student Coaches or Student Coachees

Work out with each other
a peer coaching arrangement
where both of you can mutually gain coaching hours from each other. Remember, there are
almost 50 of us now, all with the same shared goal of becoming
ICF credentialed coaches.
There is so much common ground for us to gain the highest coaching credentials in the world.
So, waste no time.

b) Be an Associate Professional Coach (APC)

Once you succeed in getting this APC status from CCA, your coaching hours will keep rolling in. Either it is through mentor coaching where CCA has a constant supply of coach students taking its programs, or getting coaching assignments that may come along the way from time to time. This credential will give you added 'ammunition' to get more coaching clients for more $$$ and coaching hours.
For more details call Josephine at 03-20709988 or email her at josephineong@corporate-coach.com.

My Wish List for 2011

In one month's time, we will bid goodbye to 2010 and welcome 2011!

This has been a truly satisfying year for the ExCo and Members alike for so much have been achieved despite the newness of this new association and our experience in managing a national one. But the show will continue to go on……

Here’s my wish list for 2011, and my challenges to you to help take MACC’s vision of "growing and building a vibrant coach community’ to the next level of success:

  • Current members will continue to be members for now and beyond. On this note we look forward to the renewal of your membership for another 2 years which is on offer at RM300 only; this offer is until 31st Dec 2010.
  • Members will contribute to the coach community in whatever ways, besides participating in all of MACC activities actively.
  • Out of Klang Valley’s members will “join” online on the eRT (a Skype monthly) platform, as well share and interact in forums, blogs, etc.
  • Keeping up with the times, we are in the midst of putting in place a powerful specially dedicated MACC social network platform to increase our interactivity, and we want you to take full advantage of it.
  • Members will contribute to the Coaching Loop - MACC’s eNewsletter, to make it truly a well encompassing coaching voice for all. [We are also looking into new and more interactive format for the eNewsletter.]
  • Members represented in every state in Malaysia and overseas will act as “ambassadors” and drivers of MACC’s vision to build a vibrant coaching community everywhere and anywhere.
  • And finally, and perhaps, most important, to see at least 5 Certified Coaches taking on the route to become ICF Credentialed Coaches by the end of 2011.

We will be sharing new directions for MACC for the next year, so hear about them at the coming AGM on 26th Feb 2011 at 1000 am at the MACC office in TTDI. So, please block off this important date in your 2011 calendar.

It is a time to say thank you to all, for without your contributions and participation, we wouldn’t have achieved so much. We also appreciate the generosity of CCA’s CEO, Dr Michael Heah, for financial support to MACC in its maiden year of existence as well as his ever-ready guidance, advice and support.

I take this opportunity to wish one and all a “Joyful & Glorious New Year”.  I pray for the gifts of love and understanding between members and, together, may we all work towards the efficacy and development of MACC for the benefits of all in the coaching fraternity.

Enjoy this issue.

MACC 1st Coach Camp
on 20 November 2010

MACC Coach Camp 2010 got off to a perfect start with a clear blue sky, cool and refreshing air, and light traffic enroute to Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside, the venue of the Camp.

Excited Camp Participants

.

In his opening address, Bob Lim, President of MACC took the 26 participants through a glimpse of what to expect from the Camp whose main thrust was on the theme “Personal Mastery”.  The core of it was Self-Limiting Beliefs (SLB).  As an ice breaker, the participants shared on their challenges, and their uniqueness.  Ironically, some found it a difficult task to dwell on their uniqueness.

cc_listen
Totally engrossed - Level 3 listening? Not all, ya?

In the  5-minute “Visioning” exercise journey into the future, each person focused on his/her personal dream, life purpose or goal.  In here,  their artistic skills and creativity were discovered or redefined. It was inspiring to hear each of us sharing our vision.

ccdrawing

You like my visionary drawing?

One participant even had her vision accompanied by a short rendition of song ‘ I believe I Can Fly’. The moral of this exercise is that success is essentially in the hand of each individual

dicussion
Let me explain my vision. Does it make sense?

The participants were then put through 2 activities. One of them called  “Walk the Talk” was designed to enhance their listening skills where blindfolded participants had to listen to their instructors in order to navigate successfully through a maze of chairs placed at strategic points.

The other called “Trust Fall” was designed to demonstrate that our inner emotions of trust (or mistrust) are manifested through our actions when this game was played.

The day wrapped up with a goal setting session where each of us had to share with a buddy our goals for the coming year.  The pair were to nudge and motivate each other towards achieving their set goals.

Here’s all our learning lessons wrapped up in one:

  • A vision that is well detailed will achieve its results;
  • The great, great importance of strong listening skills;
  • No one size fits all; each coachee has to be coached differently;
  • As a practising coach, there is a need to trust your coachee as well for the coachee to trust you; and
  • A need to recognize that a coachee who is not willing to move is not because of the coach's fault. What's needed is for trust to be built up between the coach and coachee.

And, as the feather in the MACC’s cap, the participants agreed that the Coach Camp should be an annual affair. Kudos to the Organising Committee and ProTrain, the Event Management company, for work well-done.

Roundtable Meet &  Learning Reflections

9th Roundtable Meet

on 23 Oct 2010

facilitated by Bob Lim, CPC

bbo1

At this final RT for the year with the largest number of participants ever, Bob shared a topic dear to his heart: “Mental Strength Coaching”. Here’s some great pointers:

  • Mental strength is about our ability to exercise our psychological strength in various circumstances;
  • When we can do any of these well, we are thus not helpless, powerless and/or vulnerable; instead we are strong to overcome all difficulties in our life's circumstances;
  • Some ways to gain mental strength include: finding the compelling reasons; remove self limiting beliefs; positive self talks; mental visualizations; reframing; face it head-on, etc.

Eager sharing by participants

The regular practice of group coaching to enhance our ICF coaching competencies was also part of this RT.

That is a good question, Coach! Guess who is the coach here.

A Tribute to MUM

 mh&mum

My Mum - the Greatest!

Most people draw their inspiration from personalities whom they can identify with their values, philosophies and styles.  Naughty boys like me, where during my younger days, chose ‘Hercules’ as their heroes, while young obedient girls I knew would love to own and cuddle a Barbie doll as it embodied beauty and grace.

However, my idol of Hercules left my life as quickly as he came into it. When I was much older, I have others to inspire me. Among them are our former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir, for his guts and courage, former US President, Bill Clinton for his tact & diplomacy, and my dear ex-boss Datin Irene Gan for her quick mind, strategies and innovativeness.

But my mum was not on my list then! It fact I only became aware of her influence and inspiration on me when I became a coach 7 years ago. In my work, I guide students and clients to acquire mental strength through finding their true role models. So that was then that I too went searching for my role model and ‘found’ my mum.  Conclusively, she has been my biggest source of inspiration.

Mum exerts such great impact on my entire life.  If I can call myself successful and fulfilled, it is my mum, who has been the main contributing factor. Mum taught me many invaluable lessons. She taught me about setting an early life foundation to weather any storm in my life. She also taught me selfless family love through personal sacrifices. In addition, she taught me about living a healthy life no matter how old a person may be.  Finally, she taught me the life model of simplicity and pragmatism to enhance personal capabilities for faster results.

The wonderful thing is all these were taught to me not through words of wisdom for she neither has the education nor the eloquence to do it. Hers was through her hands-on daily actions which I quietly watched throughout my journey into adulthood. I watched how she singlehandedly undertook the huge responsibility of building and growing a family unit for the 7 of us.

I learned about the need for a strong life purpose when I realize that many people can’t hold to their goals, while Mum had the iron will to toil and slog as a school canteen operator who began her work at 4.30am till late into the day, without any thought of giving up on us.   <

I learned about selfless love for the family when I come to know how family breakups happen due to selfish parents who are more interested in pursuing their own things, but Mum was living, working and saving every single penny just for us.

I learned about her lessons on health when I see youngsters (who are a fraction of her age) resigned to a docile life of the ‘I am too old’ syndrome, while Mum in her 70’s was still representing Malaysia,  winning medals in top level competitive sports. And at the overripe age of 85, Mum still keeps fit with her daily rounds of tai chi and choosing to drive a manual car to the market every day!

And finally, I realized how capabilities and effectiveness were built around the principles of simplicity and practicality where Mum could take on 7 children and a 12-hour manual work when some young parents can’t even cope with 2 kids and their cozy professional careers.

I want to say this to her:

“Mum, I want you to know that you are my greatest. I am to share your time-tested life success philosophy and formula with as many people as I can. My blog in the cyber world is one place where I can pay this tribute to you. I want to tell the world how great a mum you are to all of us.  I want to salute you as my greatest idol and mum. May God continue to give you more living years with us.  I love you always.  You will always be my greatest! "
